The Treser Liner :
Not everyone likes the Type44 Avant, Fritz Habel neither. Back in 1984 he was a member of parliament and wanted a station wagon, bot no Avant. "This man must be helped" thought Walter Treser. So a "hatchback" of the special type was born. As a starting point an Audi 100 Avant was chosen, as the 200 Avant was not yet available. A part of the rear roof was removed and a piece of an Audi 100 Limo, complete with C-pillar and rear window was transplanted. The short "tail" is nothing else than a shortened trunk lid of an Audi 100 Limo. This is completed by the front fascia of an Audi 200 and the rearlights of an Audi 200. Only the rear side windows had be completely custom made. Why all that trouble? As the 200 Avant was not yet available and the 200 limo did not have the necessary structural improvements that the 100 Avant already had, the latter was chosen.
Including the conversion car the customer had to pay what would today be roughly 50000Euro. Back then a standard Audi 200 Turbo was sold for about 23000Euro and even that was not exactly cheap then. You see that this conversion would probably not have a big market. But the high prive was not only explained by the conversion, Treser equipped the car with only the best he had. That would be: leather, the typical wheels with Michelin tires for which the fenders had to be flared (No additional sheet metal was used on them!). That was concluded by Treser front and rear skirts and a lowered and sportive suspension with strenghtened swaybar in front.
The engine is mainly stock and propels only the front wheels with its 182PS, as the quattro was not yet available. If the quattro was introduced in the Type44, Treser already had plans: He wanted to use the 306PS engine of the Sportquattro and Treser really did this!

Indeed a car in real life. The owner may please contact me!
(2) These pics were taken in Sweden by Daniel of Audivorsprung.com. Obviously, the owner has replaced the Treser rims with BBS RS 236 in 8x16 with 225/50 tires. These wheels were used on the early (pre 88) Audi 200 Exclusiv. Otherwise, the car is Treser through and through.
Thanks to Werner who is an BBS maniac and taught me about those rims! :)
